Quality at Work - Meeting Specifications
Knowing the laws and regulations helps Bonness Inc
serve our clients better.
- We stay current with DOT (Department of Transportation)
parameters
- Are knowledgeable about County guidelines and restrictions
- Assist Developers in Design review and value engineering
- We work with individuals and companies to stay within
codes
An example of this commitment to knowledge is our understanding
of The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which
took effect in January l992. The ADA covers virtually all parking
facilities for commercial buildings. It requires a minimum number
of handicap-accessible parking stalls depending on the size of the
parking lot, and a minimum number of van-accessible
parking spaces depending on the number of handicap-accessible spaces.
It also requires:
- Specific signage and specific sign placement
- Unobstructed access routes
- Access aisles leading from the parking stalls to
the sidewalk or other access route
- Use of curb ramps
- These are only a few of the many requirements parking
lots must meet to comply with federal ADA regulations. Penalties
for not complying could include:
- A court could order to bring the parking lot into
compliance.
- Civil penalties not to exceed $50,000.00 for the
first violation and $100,000.00 for the second violation.
- Monetary damages to the person or organization suing
the property owner.
