3 Signs It’s Time to Repaint Your Parking Lot

Keeping a parking lot in good and well-functioning condition isn’t as straightforward as most people think. The space is more than an empty piece of space, and those familiar stripes matter a lot in terms of safety and functionality.

These stripes aren’t permanent though, and the difficulty is knowing when to re-strip and repaint them. Check out these three signs that indicate it’s time to re-strip your parking lot.

1. Sloppy Parking

The parking strips are visual cues guiding people on how to neatly park their cars in the space. When their parking skills start getting sloppy, it’s a clear sign that the strips need repainting. In many cases, it’s simply a matter of repainting the strips since how bright the lines affect how visible they are to the driver’s eye.

2. Fender Benders

Apart from guiding drivers in the arduous task of properly parking their cars, the strips also help reduce fender benders. The last thing you want is for two drivers to argue over who hit whom when the real culprit is the parking space’s striping. Even the most long-lasting paint deteriorates on asphalt paving so make it a point to check its condition and re-strip when it starts to fade.

3. It’s Been 5 Years Since Your Last Restriping

If it’s been five or more years since your last parking lot restriping, you should consider doing so right now. Ideally, repainting the striping should be done annually as the weather and other external factors can wear out the paint sooner than expected. As a general rule, if you can’t see the lines anymore, you should consider re-striping.
